Live Performance aides in student development...

Attending live performances and engaging with the writings of Edgar Allan Poe can have a multifaceted impact on students' development. Live theater has been shown to enhance literary knowledge, tolerance, and empathy among students. The immersive experience of a performance can bring literature to life in a way that reading alone cannot, allowing students to witness the emotional journey of characters and the narrative's unfolding in real-time. This can lead to a deeper understanding and appreciation of literary works and their themes. Edgar Allan Poe's writings, with their rich language and complex themes, challenge students to think critically and analytically. His stories and poems provide a platform for students to explore psychological and philosophical concepts, fostering a sense of curiosity and a desire to understand the human condition. The combination of live performance and Poe's literature can be particularly potent. For instance, seeing a play based on Poe's work after studying the text can help students make connections between the written word and the performance, deepening their comprehension and analytical skills. In summary, the combination of attending live performances and studying Edgar Allan Poe's writings offers a rich educational experience that can benefit students in numerous ways. It can enhance their literary knowledge, critical thinking, empathy, and social skills, all of which are essential for their overall development.

How much does a performance/workshop/residency cost?

This will always vary according to how much travel is involved, the number of performances/workshops desired, etc. As a general rule, prices start in the $500-800 range + travel expenses. An exact price quote will be given right away through email (dhk@aloneonstage.com) or over the phone once you’ve indicated the number of programs/workshops you’re interested in, the exact location of the performances, and the range of dates you’re considering. There may be discounts available if your dates are flexible.

What will we need to provide?

Not much! I travel with a full sound system, lighting and projection systems. Generally, all that is needed from you will be two small tables/desks and access to one 20-amp electrical outlet. Larger theatres & auditoriums may be required to provide additional lighting and projection.
